Contents: This course will cover the signaling mechanisms by which a novel stress inducible protein Sestrin2 in controlling the energy sensor AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and the glucose transporter trafficking under physiological and pathological conditions. This course will also discuss the molecular network underlying the molecular regulation. It will provide the students more comprehensive understanding of the molecular network associated with ischemic heart disease, heart failure and metabolic syndrome and of a novel rationale for treatment and prevention of diabetes-associated cardiovascular complications using the beneficial metabolic activities of Sesntrin2/AMPK signaling cascade. Exam: Attendance: 10%; Quiz (4): 40%; Final Exam: 50% Full Score: 100; Pass Score: >60
