The Pathophysiological underpinning of migraine headache

Migraine headache is the third most prevalent disease and the second most severe disabling disorder worldwide. Clinical retrospective data show that the development of migraine chronicity is frequently related to a wide variety of aversive environments. Education on getting knowledge of this severe pain syndrome is becoming necessary nowadays. This course is designed to provide education for students in medical school, and for physicians and nurses who are involved in the pain management. The course refreshes the established knowledge on anatomy and physiology of the trigeminovascular pain pathways, which is followed by introducing the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying the incident of migraine headache. We will focus on providing the most cutting-edge information on how the chronicity of migraine headache is developed via interacting with a number of aversive factors in our environment. Participants are expected to develop a deeper understanding of pain neuroscience and pain medicine underlying migraine-like pain. These will in turn benefit for the improvement of both migraine headache management in clinics and neuroscience study of migraine headache in research laboratories. In this classroom-based learning, participants will learn the above knowledge through lectures, critical readings, and interactive demonstrations with the instructor.
