Major Topics: The overall goal of this class is to introduce students to a wide range of interesting and technologically relevant topics in the nanobiotechnology research area. The objective of the course, as implied by the course content below, is to introduce acquire in-depth knowledge about nanobiotechnology in general, and about its medical applications in particular. Emphasis will be on the applications of nanotechnology in measurements and biosensors, therapy and diagnosis, surface bio functionalization, biocomponent assembly, drug design and drug deliveries, BioMEMS/NEMS, nanotoxicity, tissue engineering, medical imaging, entrepreneurship and environmental health. The course does not assume any nanotechnology background or any prior courses in biotechnology, although it certainly helps to have some. Students successfully completing this class will have a demonstrated knowledge of some advanced concepts of nanobiotechnology and how they apply to modern medical sciences.
