Science technology and innovation is core pillar of any subject, and disaster risk reduction (DRR) is no exception to this. Over ages, we have been dealing / coping with disasters and invented knowledge and technology systems to reduce the impacts. Starting from local and indigenous knowledge and conventional technology, DRR field has evolved through time. The new, emerging and disruptive technologies provides new opportunities of innovation in DRR, and to solve daily social issues related to education, health, livelihood etc. Community based social innovation thus becomes a critical component of DRR process. This course will elaborate: 1) evolution of science technology in DRR, 2) clarify critical issues like urban resilience, climate change adaptation, 3) engage students to fostering social innovation in DRR. This will be done through lecture, group work and group presentation. The outcome of the course will be enhanced knowledge base as well as critical thinking on innovation in DRR.
