Official description: “Examination of the underlying principles concerning the formation of organizations and their internal management. Emphasis on the study and analysis of various theoretical approaches to organization theory and management.” This course provides fundamental knowledge about organizations and their management. Everyone interacts with organizations, so students will benefit from understanding how they function.This course will familiarize students with three basic approaches to management and organization theory. In particular, students will develop an understanding of, and be able to contrast and compare between: Financial Bottom Line (FBL) management, Triple Bottom Line (TBL) management, and Social and Ecological Thought (SET) management. Additionally, this course will focus on entrepreneurship or one of the four management functions: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling, to deepen students’ understanding of the three management approaches. By the end of the course, students will better understand what managers do and why they do it.
