Leadership and 领导 (lingdao) are vital organizational concepts. But what does “leadership” actually mean and how does it work? Answers vary across national boundaries and cultures. The Chinese idea of “lingdao” is not necessarily the same as the idea of “leadership” in the United States. The same may be said for other key organizational concepts such as “management” and “authority.” Through multi-media lecture, discussion, and video examples, this course explores and compares different styles and interpretations of “leadership,” the usefulness of leadership for organizational effectiveness, and how to recognize “leadership” in everyday life.Course Activities: Lecture and video presentation, small group discussions and presentation.
