A paper (minimum of 1000 words) establishing a personal relevance for the art and ideas of Shakespeare by pursuing some aspect of King Lear that is of interest to the student—for example, Shakespeare’s philosophical ideas, his attitude towards women, his views on politics and society, his use of language, etc. Not lecture notes or summaries of material found in the library or on the net, this paper should be the result of the students’ original thinking and writing. 2. A recording of a passage from Lear that the student finds particularly beautiful, moving, or significant (minimum length one and one-half minutes). Accompanying the recording will be a short explanation (minimum of 250 words) of why the passage was chosen and how the student has attempted to bring out its meaning through dramatic interpretation (variation in intonation, pitch, pace, etc.) "
