The training is to focus on general packaging industry knowledge. This academic training over 5 days, with emphasis on the fundamental elements of packaging technology, theory of permeation, plastics and paper and board packaging, glass and metal packaging, recycling guidelines, packaging design guidelines, new packaging regulations, food safety legal requirements, food waste and safe food packaging as well as packaging waste and emerging global packaging strategies, and a focus on sustainability. Some new concepts were also introduced to the participants, such as nanotechnology in food and packaging, printing techniques used in packaging and the various machines and equipment predominantly utilised in the packaging industry. The aim is to ensure that participants’ gain maximum knowledge and that they can transfer packaging technology knowledge into their auditing programs. Ensuring too that the participants get an idea of the emerging global packaging strategies, plus ensure that packaging materials are well understood and able to use the information in a meaningful way within auditing. Introduce to the participants how to use the recycling guidelines, packaging design guidelines as well as packaging regulations in their respective workplace environment.
